According to Sirius: The best grunge and '90s alternative rock musicDriving Circumstances: Well, as this was Friday's channel, got to listen to it a good deal over the weekend, too.
My Experience: This confused me at first, because the typical logo for the station didn't appear at the top of my Sirius receiver when I changed the channel...just the words "90sAlt." It wasn't a channel I recognized, and the name seemed to lack a little something, but it still seemed to be something that fell within my range of interest. Then, a station promo played, and referred to itself as Sirius 24: Lithium. I didn't recall this station from my last tour of the dial, and sure enough, the website confirmed it...this was a new station that had sprung up. Interesting. Basically, it took me back to my college dorm days, and was like walking down the corridors of Mason Hall, new music swelling up and taking over as you went past each room...but all pretty much falling within this genre.

I'll do you one better than HS/College song memories and go back to Junior High: Chicago, "Look Away" and Eric Carmen, "Make Me Lose Control." (both evoke strong junior high crushes) High school was mostly hair bands, but one I remember in particular was Bon Jovi, "I'll Be There For You." College, so many songs, I can't name them all. "Loser" by Beck takes me back to working in the cafeteria in Mason-Abbot. And "Hook" by Blues Traveler reminds me of my summer in NYC, as well as a church retreat the next fall. One song right out of college too: The Fugeez, "Killing Me Softly" which we played over and over again on a camping trip up near Saginaw. And of course, being in East Lansing and in college when Verve Pipe hit it big, it was hard to avoid "Freshman."
